Okay it’s already the year 2013, so what? It’s just another year, like the one before. I don’t think much of the new year celebrations, to me it’s just another number.
I can’t remember exactly how I got interested into making terrariums and I think it was just a few days before the New Year. I remember talking to myself “Let’s work on something new and different as the project for 2013” while watching TV when everybody else were busy planning something.
I first did some experiments with the cactus I already have in the house, then I went to Sg. Buloh to buy a few tiny plants and potted moss. I also went to IKEA looking for ideas and of course, for the glass containers. On New Year’s eve I made 5 terrariums as a start. I also bought a bedside table lamp but couldn’t peel off the bulb holder without breaking the glass. I’ll figure that one out and when it’s done I think it’s going to be an awesome terrarium that’s also a lamp.
Here are the terrariums I’ve made so far (except the orchid, it’s already there for the past few weeks):
On the first day of 2013, I created a tiny lawn terrarium on a glass cake holder. I saw an example in the internet but at first I wasn’t sure how to do it, considering that it’s not going to be easy if not impossible, to manually plant a carpet moss. But then I remember seeing them growing in abundance by the concrete drains near my house and I went there with my tools to give it a shot. Below is how I skinned it out and placed it inside the container.
It’s still an experiment at the moment, I’m hoping that the moss will adapt to the new environment. If this works, then I can see myself terra-rizing around town looking for moss and skinning them out :-)
Happy New Year, 2013!
