Gong Xi Fa Cai holiday

For the Chinese New Year holiday, I joined my inlaws for a trip to Johor Bahru and then a quick drive to Sentosa island in Singapore. I initially didn’t plan to go actually, there’s a few paperworks that needs to be done but it wouldn’t be nice as the kids were so excited about the trip and my parents inlaw were excited too. Besides, they need an extra driver ;-P

It was a long and slow drive from KL with a few stops for foods and checking the car’s engine. I was driving my car that has more than 330,000km milage on it, so I’ve got to be careful for long distance trips like this especially lately it has been showing signs of breaking down. We stayed at a homestay in Pasir Gudang, then took my parents inlaw for a good seafood dinner in Stulang Laut and it feels so rewarding seeing the 80+ years old couple looks so happy. It was a big family trip with all my inlaws and the children – they’re busy having fun among themselves doing almost everything that only children could think of.

The next day we drove our cars into Singapore, straight to the Sentosa island and spent almost all day long there. Nothing fancy for me, feels like Genting Highlands a bit but the boys loved it especially the Luge – riding a tiny cart downhill. I was just enjoying my Starbucks by the balcony accompanied by a friendly peacock, pair of Merbuk and squirrels while waiting for them to finish. Since it was a holiday season, the place was packed like mad and we had to go through the long queue for lunch. After Sentosa island, I stopped by the Botanic Garden and let the boys run around the park releasing all their left-over energies. Aldin and Aliff had a good time taking dozens of pictures with my Fuji camera *hint: looks like I’ve gotta get myself the Canon 6D as replacement :-)

All in all, it was a quick trip and yesterday just before we’re leaving Johor, the boys decided that they wanted another round of time in Singapore and I agreed to take them along Orchard Rd and Syiqin wanted to do some shopping in Bugis St. But this time I parked the car in Orchard Rd and took the MRT around. On the way back, I took them sightseeing the less visited part of Singapore, a slight detour from PIE through the Bukit Batok housing area and Jurong West before entering the AYE to Tuas for the Second Link exit (of course I’m not going to admit that I was lost). The traffic was surprisingly smooth, the roads were  clear all the way from Singapore until I reached home.

It was a rare family holiday for us, I’m glad that it all went smoothly. Aliff couldn’t stop talking about the MRT. Syiqin and Aldin were happy with the stuffs they bought at Orchard Rd and Bugis St. As for me, apart from happy for being able to provide them with the holiday, I’m thrilled that my car didn’t give any problems at all during the entire trip.

Note : Aliff’s favorite repetitive statement throughout this trip – “Are we there yet?”
