I’ve been working on this personal project for quite some time now, almost complete. The hat goes to Rezuan and Fiona for working on the codes and UI designs respectively, I’m just the chief architect that constantly blabber on the thoughts and ideas every once in a while.
If you have to ask me what it means, then you’ve probably missed the train in the spoken slang of present days and it would probably be more interesting for me to leave you wondering on the meanings :-)
What does it do? Well, basically it will let you choose what sort of information to be displayed around you (of course you can search, check the latest updates, etcetera) in a map drop-pins, with details that includes videos and photographs alongside the text information.
What’s so cool about it? This app allows you to submit your own location, with your own video or photo content and automatically locate it using the GPS coordinate of the photos or videos. It’s a crowd-sourced content, liberated from advertisement and control of the central body, has an option to vote up or down of a content, flag them as inappropriate (of course if you keep unfairly flagging contents, you will be banned yourself) and you can share the contents to your Facebook timeline, Twitter feeds or just email the link to friends.
What sort of integration available? The back-end engine is a cloud based server of my own but I will store all the submitted videos to YouTube, authentication done through Facebook and for location database I am using Foursquare’s freely available locations but of course you can add your own if you wish.
Why do I even bother doing this? Why not..!? I’m tired of using Foursquare that’s filled with all sorts of irrelevant information, Facebook inundated with even more irrelevant status updates and Instagrams populated with Anime lookalike face postings by teenagers (or those who pretends to be teens). I need an app that will right-away let me know where’s the nearest mountain-biking track nearby, the nearest scubadiving site or best beaches for paragliding… all without having to sift through hundreds of irrelevant videos and photographs from YouTube, Google etcetera and all these information are provided by the people that are actively doing the sports themselves, nicely arranged in a format that is easy and pleasant to read.
Will it be free? Yes it will be free.
What sort of value this app will create? In future, when there are about several million downloads and several hundred million users, I would like to partner with Facebook and perhaps do a share swap with them, that would be awesome isn’t it? ;-)
No just kidding, this is just a pet project that we’re working on as a proof-of-concept for something that is more complicated to be implemented – it’s a part of my bigger, grandeur plan.
So what sort of categories supported? At this point of time, I’m thinking of all outdoor activities such as paragliding, fishing, mountain biking, scuba diving and trekking. Maybe more will be added but that will depend on my mood or based on suggestions from users.
Till then, will keep you posted.
